Our practice is devoted exclusively to the medical and surgical care of injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system - the muscles, bones and joints that make up the body's skeletal framework. The word Orthopaedic modern spelling orthopedic) comes from the Greek meaning "child straightening", because the specialty originally dealt with such childhood deformities as polio and rickets. At the turn of the 20th century, orthopedists began treating adult disorders and fractures as well.
Orthopedists and orthopedic surgeons are the same specialists. The word 'surgeon' does not mean you will need an operation; most orthopedic problems are treated without surgery.
Our doctors have been trained in major U.S. university medical centers, are certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and are fellows of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Doctors Choi and Shafi are on the faculty at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Doctors Scott and Winell are on the faculty at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
All of our doctors maintain privileges at JFK Hospital in Edison. We also perform same day procedures at SurgiCare of Central Jersey in Watchung NJ.
Our office is also staffed by a licensed registered nurse, a licensed radiographer and a licensed physical therapist and is equipped with modern X-ray equipment and onsite physical therapy.
